Profile of the Lecturer:
Ni Yuing received the PhD degree from the department of History in Peking University and is currently a professor and PhD student’s supervisor in the Department of History in Tsinghua University. He specializes in Economic and Social History of Qing dynasty. He was awarded with “the NationalOne-Hundred Excellent Doctoral Dissertations Prize” and hosts National Social Science Foundation program “Finance and Society in Jiadao’s Period in Qing Dynasty”. His monographs include Food Transportation by Canals and Sea and the Social Changes in Qing Dynasty, Study on Tariff of Jiadao Period in Qing Dynasty, Finance and Society in Jiadao’s Period in Qing Dynasty, etc. He has also translated Ray Huang’s book Taxation and Governmental Finance in Sixteenth-Century Ming China (Taiwan Linking Publishing Co, Ltd 2001; SDX Joint Publishing Company 2001). He has published dozens of articles on journals including Social Sciences in China, Historical Research, Journal of Chinese Historical Studies, and Modern Chinese History Studies. He is Harvard Yenching Scholar and visiting professor in University of Groningen.
