As the most important representative of loess landscape type (known as "loess belt") in the world, the Loess Plateau plays an extremely important role in the process of human civilization in China and East Asia. The Loess Plateau is the vast homeland of countless people in the historical period, witnessing the joys and sorrows of numerous people for thousands of years. Scholars in many disciplines have conducted studies on the natural environment evolution and social development of the Loess Plateau from different perspectives in detail, and have made a lot of achievements. However, the interdisciplinary research should be improved in this field. As a comprehensive and interdisciplinary subject, historical geography has carried out the study of human-land relations. But many scholars paid more attention to the "land" aspect of the Loess Plateau, not the "people" aspect. In particular, when discussing the relationship between the land and people on the Loess Plateau, the activities, functions and influences of "people" (including individuals, groups and society) is often ignored at some extent.
Under the guidance of the current national "people-centered development thought", historical research should undoubtedly be based on a new vision of time. Facing the new research topic of historical relationship between Loess Plateau and human society, scholars should actively carry out exploration and research. After a period of research and consultation, Northwest Institute of Historical Environment and Socio-economic Development of Shaanxi Normal University plans to organize a conference on "International Symposium on Historical Research of People’s Living Conditions in the Loess Plateau" in Xi’an with relevant academic institutions. We sincerely invite domestic and foreign scholars from different fields to communicate and discuss.

4. Conference Topic
(1)The people’s living background in the Loess Plateau, including climate resources, land resources, water resources, animal and plant resources, natural disasters, etc.
(2) The people’s production status in the Loess Plateau, including agriculture, animal husbandry, handicraft industry, business and conservation of water and soil, etc.
(3) The people’s living conditions in the Loess Plateau, including clothing(costume), food(diet), housing(settlements and residences), transportation (roads and vehicles), and medical treatment, etc.
(4) The social conditions in the Loess Plateau, including administrative management, grassroots organizations, civil society, etc.
(5) The people’s spiritual conditions in the Loess Plateau, including religious belief, folk customs, education, pursuit of happiness, etc.
(6) Field investigation texts, including oral history of the village community and related investigation reports.
5. Conference Paper Requirement
In order to promote academic communication among participants, the conference will edit and print conference proceedings of the international symposium on the historical research of people’s conditions in the Loess Plateau.
Abstract requirements are as follows:
(1)Abstract should include paper title, author's name, author's working unit, correspondence address, postal code and E-mail address, abstract, key words (3-5).
(2)The abstract should contain 500-700 words. The file format is *.doc or *.docx.
Please send your paper abstract together with the return receipt to the email of the conference committee before June 15.
Requirements for conference full papers are as follows:
(1)The format of paper should be edited with the requirements of Journal of Chinese Historical Geography.
(2) The paper must be original. The paper will be reviewed by the conference academic group. The conference committee will send a formal invitation letter to the participants.

6. Conference fee
Participants need to pay the conference registration fee. The general representative should pay 800 yuan for each one; Student representative should pay 400 yuan for each one. The above fee include attendance permit, conference materials, and venue rental during the conference. The transportation, accommodation and investigation fee shall be paid by participants. Accommodation arrangement and investigation fee will be listed in notice No.2.
